Trip Overview

The highlight of this tour is the endangered white-bellied heron which can be spotted along the shores of the Phochhu River and the Mochhu River that are home to a large number of other migratory water birds.

Outline Iteinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Paro

  • Our representatives will receive you at the Paro airport.
  • If on the  early morning flight, then visit National Museum of Bhutan, above the Paro valley, and Rinpung Dzong after lunch.
  • Stroll around small Paro town, Checking on the  handicraft shops.

Day 2: Chelela Pass

  • Drive to Chelela Pass overlooking Paro and Haa valleys, commanding a spectacular views of Mt. Jhomolhari and Jichu Drakye.On the way, we may see the colorful Himalayan Monal, flocks of Blood Pheasants, Kalij Pheasants, Grosbeaks, Bullfinches, and Cutia
  • Drive down to Haa valley for lunch
  • Visit Lhakhang Karpo and other  religious institutions associated with Ap Chhundu, the deity of Haa valley.
  • Drive back to Paro  and stay overnight in the hotel.

Day 3: Halt in Thimphu

  • Drive to the base of Cheri Monastery and hike around the nearby forest where you may be able to sight Spotted Laughing Thrush, Fire-capped Tit, Golden-breasted Fulvetta, Yellow-backed Flower Packer, Maroon-backed Accentor.We eat packed lunch.
  • Return  to Thimphu for lunch and  sightseeing around town
  •  Visit  Royal Textile Academy, walk around Craft Bazaar and other souvenir shops and General Post office for  bird stamps

Day 4: Thimphu to Punakha

  • Drive up to Dochula Pass at 3150m for a breathtaking view of the mountain views on a clear day and admire the grandeur of the 108 stupas that decorate the pass. If we detour into the park, we may spot Gold-naped Finch, Rufous-breasted Bush Robin, Satyr Tragopan, Slender-billed Scimitar Babbler, and Tree Creeper.
  • Lunch at Lobesa and visit Chimi Lhakhang, built by Tibetan lama Ngawang Chogyal (1465-1540) but dedicated to his cousin, Lama Drukpa Kunley, the Divine Mad Monk. The temple is believed to bless childless couples with fertility.
  • Drive to Punakha to visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong built by the founder of Bhutan, Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, in 1637. Located between the Phochhu (Male River) and Mochhu (Female River), it was the capital of Bhutan till 1953.

Day 5: Halt in Punakha

  • Hike along  Mochhu riuver bank to catch a glimpse of White-bellied Heron, White-gorgeted Flycatcher, and Yellow-vented Warbler, among others. These are mostly migratory birds.

Day 6: Punakha to Paro

  • Drive to Paro via Thimphu, halt for lunch in Thimphu, and shopping, if any
  • Continue on to Paro  and stroll in the evening around Paro town in the town.

Day 7: Departure from Paro

  • See off at Paro airport by our representative.

Price Details

The Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB), Tourism Business regulating agency of the Royal Government of Bhutan, fixes the Tourist Tariff rate. This rate is valid for all the inclusive tour packages. The tariffs for tourists visiting in a group of 3 persons or more are as follows:

Peak Season Rate: (March, April, May, September, October and November) Cultural Tour /Trekking – US$ 250/per person per night halt.

Low Season Rate:(January, February, June, July, August and December) Cultural Tour /Trekking- US$ 200/per person per night halt.
