Trip Overview

The Journey to the heartlands of Bhutan is an 11-day leisurely paced cultural trip that is designed to give you most of what Bhutan has to offer. It provides a fairly complete and an indulging experience with something for everyone – a glimpse of our living culture and traditions, rich history, stunning nature walks through virgin forests, interaction with friendly people whose natural sense of hospitality is renowned, but you are yet to experience.

Every new place on this trip is a hotspot for tourism, laden with attractions to enliven your senses – be it an exquisite ancient fortress or breathtaking scenery from the Tiger’s Nest, from Paro’s golden paddy fields to Bumthang’s local delicacies – this trip is one of the favourites of our guests in terms of sale numbers.

Outline Iteinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Paro airport and drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan.

 Day 2: Thimphu

  • Whole day sightseeing in Thimphu visiting centres of popular tourist attractions

Day 2: Thimphu

Drive to Punakha via Dochula pass. Enjoy spectacular views of the Himalayan ranges. Visit the temple of fertility, Chhimi Lhakhang and Punakha Dzong (fortress). Explore the town in the evening.

Day 4: Trongsa

  • Drive to Trongsa through Wangdue town, visit the Wangdue Phodrang Dzong (fortress)

Day 5: Trongsa

  • Visit the ‘Tower of Trongsa’ museum and the Trongsa Dzong (fortress) and continue to Bumthang and experience a culinary treat in the evening as this place is known for some of our popular local recipes.

Day 6: Bumthang

  • Whole day hiking, sightseeing and visiting some of the most popular temples in the country like Jambay Lhakhag, Kurje Lhakhang and Tamzhing Lhakhang. Also explore Bumthang town and visit local farms and interact with local people.

Day 7: Phobjikha

  • Drive to Phobjikha through the Pelela pass.

Day 8: Phobjikha

  • Sightseeing hike in Phobjikha, visit the famous Gangtey Gompa. Also visit the Observatory to observe the Black Necked Cranes through a telescope if you are there in late fall and winter.

Day 9: Thimphu

  • Arrive in Thimphu city and explore evening and nightlife. Sample some of the best restaurants in town.

Day 10: Thimphu

  • Hike to Tango and Cheri area with picnic lunch (up north in Thimphu).

Day 11: Paro

  • Drive to Paro and hike up to Tiger’s Nest and visit the National Museum in the afternoon. Evening is a cultural bonanza, a value-added activity provided by Destination Bhutan.

Day 12: Depart from Paro.

Price Details

The Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB), Tourism Business regulating agency of the Royal Government of Bhutan, fixes the Tourist Tariff rate. This rate is valid for all the inclusive tour packages. The tariffs for tourists visiting in a group of 3 persons or more are as follows:

Peak Season Rate: (March, April, May, September, October and November) Cultural Tour /Trekking – US$ 250/per person per night halt.

Low Season Rate:(January, February, June, July, August and December) Cultural Tour /Trekking- US$ 200/per person per night halt.

Price Inclusions

  • Bhutan Royalty ($65 per person per day).
  • Visa Fees ($40 per person).
  • All necessary permit fees.
  • All transfers and sightseeing with entrance fees.
  • All meals including evening tea.
